About This Tour
3T Travel sells this trip on GetYourGuide at $106 per person. It lasts 2 days and 1 night, or 38 hours, and carries a 4.7 rating from 806 reviews. The honest part is the pace. The operator says the first day can take up to 10 hours of driving and that the tour does not include many long stops, because the van has to reach the dunes before sunset. Day 2 is just as long: expected arrival back in Marrakech is around 7 to 8 PM, or in Fes in the evening. How the Day Runs
The itinerary comes straight from the operator's listing. Two very long driving days wrap around one night in the dunes, and the return city is your choice: Marrakech or Fes.
Day 1: Marrakech to the Camp
The van collects you at your hotel between 5:00 and 6:00 and climbs through the High Atlas over the Tizi n'Tichka pass, on a road that rises to 2,260 m above sea level. The route passes Ouarzazate, the Valley of Roses and the Dades Valley. The operator states the drive from Marrakech to the desert camp can take up to 10 hours, with few long stops, so the van reaches Merzouga before sunset.
Guides and camels wait at the edge of the Erg Chebbi dunes, and after about 50 minutes on a camel you reach the camp. Mint tea is served, then dinner, a campfire and drums. Sandboarding is available if you ask the staff on arrival before the camel ride.
- Pickup 5:00 to 6:00 at your Marrakech hotel
- Tizi n'Tichka pass at 2,260 m

- Camel ride of about 50 minutes at sunset
Day 2: Sunrise, Then Marrakech or Fes
Get up early and walk over the dunes for sunrise. The listing notes the Algerian border is about 50 km from Merzouga, so sunrise comes from that direction. After breakfast and a shower the trip splits.
The Marrakech option crosses the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs and the High Atlas with a few quick stops and reaches Marrakech in the evening around 8 PM, with expected arrival around 7 to 8 PM depending on traffic. The Fes option runs through Rissani, the Ziz Valley, Berber villages and the Middle Atlas, arriving in Fes in the evening.

Free cancellation applies up to 24 hours before the start. Reserve now and pay later is available.
A local guide at Ait Ben Haddou is not in the inclusions, and the Ait Benhaddou and Todra Gorge stops are available at an extra cost from spring to summer. Quad biking is available at an extra cost. Head scarves are excluded, so buy or bring your own before the camel ride.

Book It If, Skip It If
Book it if
- you have exactly two days and want the shortest option in the catalog at 38 hours and $106 per person
- you want to finish in Fes, since the same booking offers a drop-off there through Rissani and the Ziz Valley
- you want the camel ride of about 50 minutes, sandboarding, one dinner and one breakfast all inside a $106 price
Skip it if
- you get motion sickness, which the listing says this tour is not suitable for on the Tizi n'Tichka mountain roads
- you need long stops at the sights, because the Small-Group 3-Day Sahara Tour gives them a full day each
- you need a private bathroom in the tent, since the 3-Day Tour with Luxury Camp includes one in its price
Who This Tour Rules Out
The listing states its own limits plainly. Read them before you book, because two 10-hour road days around one camp night do not suit everyone.
The Long Days
The operator states the drive from Marrakech to the camp can take up to 10 hours with few long stops, and day 2 is expected to end around 7 to 8 PM. The fix is simple: add a day. The Classic 3-Day Merzouga Desert Tour puts a hotel night in Tinghir between the two drives, and the 4-Day Tour via Dades breaks the return journey with a night in the Dades Valley.
Motion Sickness, Groups and Camp Facilities
The listing says the tour is not suitable for people with motion sickness, and the mountain roads over the Tizi n'Tichka pass make that easy to understand. The group is shared, up to 17 on the small-group option and up to 19 on the standard option, so you do not choose your travel companions or the departure pace. Camp bathrooms depend on the tent tier you pick: the listing offers 3 tent options, and the ensuite bathroom and shower shown in the highlights belong to the higher tiers.
If a private bathroom in the tent matters, compare the 3-Day Tour with Luxury Camp, which includes a private-bathroom tent in its price.
Families and the Return City
The listing sets no minimum age, so check with the operator directly before booking young children into two long van days. The trip can end in a different city from where it starts: the Fes option suits travellers moving on north, and the Marrakech to Fes via Merzouga does the same one-way journey over three days instead of two, with a hotel night between the drives. If you would rather end where you started without the rush, the one-way Fes route is the better shape.

Honest Pros and Cons
This is the shortest trip to the dunes, and the shortest trip pays for that in road hours. Both sides, stated plainly.
What we genuinely like
- The shortest option: 38 hours, so it fits a tight Marrakech stay
- Cheaper entry point than every 3-day tour on this site at $106 per person
- Your choice of return city, Marrakech or Fes
- Free cancellation up to 24 hours before the start, and reserve now and pay later
- Camel ride of about 50 minutes and sandboarding on request both in the price
- 4.7 rating from 806 reviews on GetYourGuide
The honest downsides
- The operator states the day 1 drive to the camp can take up to 10 hours, with few long stops
- Day 2 is just as long, with expected arrival around 7 to 8 PM in Marrakech
- Ait Ben Haddou and Todra Gorge stops cost extra from spring to summer, and monument fees, lunches, drinks and head scarves are all excluded
- One night means no hotel stop to break the drives, and you skip the gorge stops most 3-day tours include
Who it's NOT for: Anyone with motion sickness, anyone who wants time at the route's sights, or families who cannot face two 10-hour van days should book a 3-day tour instead.
Weather, Packing and Money
The desert climate runs to two extremes: high summer heat and cold winter nights. The figures below are the Errachidia normals, the nearest weather station with published data.
Seasons on This Route
The route crosses the High Atlas and drops to the desert edge at Errachidia's elevation of about 1,009 m. Summer days are the challenge in the van, winter nights the challenge in the camp. The listing itself warns that summers from June to August bring high temperatures and winters from December to February can be cold, especially at night.
| Season | What to expect |
|---|---|
| Summer, June to August | Daily highs average 39.5 C in July and 38.2 C in August in Errachidia, with June at 35.4 C. The listing warns van airflow may not circulate evenly and suggests a small personal fan. |
| Winter, December to February | Daily lows average 2.0 C in January and 3.5 C in December, with a recorded minimum of -8.1 C. Pack real layers for the camp night. |
| Spring and autumn | Mean highs of 22.1 C in March, 26.1 C in April, 26.8 C in October and 20.6 C in November. The kindest window for this trip. |
What to Pack
Bring a small overnight bag for the camp and leave the main luggage in the van, as desert listings commonly ask. Pack layers for the night, a headlamp for walking between tent and campfire, and sun protection for the dunes. Bring comfortable shoes and clothes, as the listing requires, plus a head scarf, which is excluded from the tour.
A small personal fan helps in summer per the operator's own advice. Cash covers both lunches, monument fees and tips, since the dirham is a closed currency that cannot easily be exchanged outside Morocco.
Documents and Money Rules
Carry your passport. UK travellers can visit Morocco without a visa for up to 90 days, and UK passports need an expiry date at least 3 months after arrival. The US State Department says US passports need at least six months of validity and one blank page per stamp.
Foreign currency worth 15,000 Moroccan dirham, about USD 1,500, must be declared on arrival. Browse the route stop by stop and the weather by season sections on the homepage for more detail.

What Travelers Said
One of the best trips of my life! A huge part of the credit goes to Moha, our driver and guide. His enthusiasm and sense of humor were infectious! I also learned so much about Morocco. The evening at the camp was fantastic, and we even met some wonderful people there! When I return to Morocco, I’ll definitely head out to the desert with Moha again!
We had an incredible two days in Merzouga, starting with Ibrahim and ending with Labhar. Both tour guides were amazing, and I would highly recommend this tour. The only thing that made my group feel a little uncomfortable was right after the camel ride, when the person leading the camels had us get off the camels and tried to sell us stuff. It was dark and raining; we didn't know how far away from camp we were, and the person didn't speak English. We felt trapped until someone purchased something.
Amazing tour with breathtaking landscapes and a really nice camp with delicious food. But most importantly, our guide, DJ Said Jamai, made the whole trip so much more fun with his amazing energy and incredible voice. He was fantastic and made the experience truly unforgettable! Highly recommended! ⭐️

Yes, and most travellers prefer it. The Classic 3-Day Merzouga Desert Tour runs 3 days and 2 nights at $114.05 per person, with a hotel night in Tinghir breaking the drives and more time at the route stops.
How long does it take to drive from Marrakech to Merzouga?
The operator states the drive from Marrakech to the desert camp can take up to 10 hours with stops for lunch and breaks, and it advises bringing your own snacks or water or asking the driver to stop. The full route and its stops are described in the route section on the homepage.
What is included in the $106 price?
The price covers a professional driver, air-conditioned transport, 1 night in the desert camp with 3 tent options, 1 dinner and 1 breakfast there, the camel ride of about 50 minutes and sandboarding on request. Lunches, drinks, monument fees, head scarves and quad biking are excluded, as the what the price covers table shows.
Will there be enough time to explore the stops along the route?
Limited. The operator states this tour does not include many long stops to avoid delays, because the van must reach the dunes before sunset for the camel ride. The Ait Benhaddou and Todra Gorge stops are available at an extra cost from spring to summer. If stops matter to you, the Small-Group 3-Day Sahara Tour gives the sights a full day each.
Is the tour suitable for children?
The listing sets no minimum age, so ask the operator directly before booking. What is stated is the real constraint: two very long van days, a 5:00 to 6:00 pickup and a camp night, which many young children find hard. The Budget 3-Day Merzouga Tour spreads the journey over three days at $65 per person.
